MY ART SERIOUSLY CHALLENGES THE TRADITIONAL NOTIONS OF BEAUTY IN ART

Art to me can be found in ‘unexpected places’. I have deliberately chosen to use discarded beehives as a medium and to celebrate their beauty.
The challenge to a viewer comes from seeing beauty within these ordinary pieces of discarded materials. I am asking the viewer to forget the traditional constructs of art, to take the time to see a value in looking at their world in a different way. Possibly this a big ask, but as Leonard Cohen writes in his lyrics to his song ‘Anthem’ (1992)
“Ring the bells that still can ring,
Forget your perfect offering,
There’s a crack, a crack in everything,
That’s how the light gets in. “
Twenty years ago, I held a serious solo exhibition entitled ‘Unexpected Beauty – Unexpected places’ and, like Leonard Cohen, my anthem has remained the same…
“Forget your perfect offering…”
